This is a free fantasy on the tune written in 1879 by Joseph Parry, the first Welsh Doctor of Music who lived for many years in Philadeljphia. The composer has long associated this tune with the words "Jesus, lover of my soul, let me hide myself in Thee", which describe the mood intended.

"And can it be", one of Charles Wesley´s best-loved hymns, was written on the first anniversary of his Christian conversion. This setting captures the majesty of Thomas Campbell´s hymn tune "Sagina" and the wonder of God´s grace as expressed in Wesley´s text:
